Alaska Wheels Forward is committed to enhancing food security throughout our state by supporting regional food banks and pantry networks. As hunger continues to affect many Alaskans, our mission is to ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food. By donating a vehicle or funds, you directly contribute to food bank operations that are vital in providing for those in need.
Your generous support helps to fund warehousing and distribution infrastructure, refrigerated truck routes, mobile food pantries, and various other essential programs. Every dollar you contribute helps streamline the logistics of food delivery, ensuring that meals are efficiently and effectively provided to individuals and families across our vast and often remote communities.

↗Real impact, real numbers
Your donations can create a significant impact—every dollar contributed provides approximately ten meals. For example, if you donate a vehicle valued at $1,500, that translates to around 15,000 meals for families in need at partner food banks. Similarly, a $2,500 vehicle could provide 25,000 meals, and with larger donations, the impact can grow exponentially, scaling with the efficiency of our distribution network. Each vehicle donation helps us enhance our capacity to serve, ensuring that no Alaskan goes hungry.
How we vet recipient partners
At Alaska Wheels Forward, we prioritize partnering with food banks and pantry networks that meet high accountability standards. We prefer organizations affiliated with Feeding America, as they adhere to rigorous vetting criteria, ensuring the effective use of your contributions. Our partners typically boast a 4-star rating on Charity Navigator, maintain low overhead costs under 10%, and present Form 990s with a program ratio of 90% or higher. This means your donations are directed toward making a real difference.
How proceeds flow
After the auction sale of donated vehicles and accounting for towing and processing costs, approximately 70-80% of the gross proceeds are allocated directly to our partner food banks. Once funds reach these organizations, a program ratio is applied to ensure that the money is effectively utilized for food bank operations, further amplifying the impact of your generosity and ensuring efficient use of resources.
Alaska recipient landscape
Alaska faces unique challenges in food distribution due to its vast geography and remote communities. Regional food banks are crucial in addressing these challenges, providing vital services to those who might otherwise go without. Local programs are essential to ensuring that underserved populations, including children and seniors, have access to nutritious meals. State-level funding may be limited, making your support even more critical in bridging the gap for food security in our communities.
